Water Gremlin - Air Permit
We invite you to comment on the draft updated air permit for Water Gremlin, located in White Bear Township.
Water Gremlin primarily manufactures battery terminals and other fabricated lead products like sinker weights for fishing and components of munitions. The draft permit authorizes the conversion of coaters from a solvent-based coating system to a non-solvent-based coating system, as well as the addition of non-solvent coaters and the replacement of the coating room stack. Water Gremlin must adhere to more stringent requirements to demonstrate compliance with the permit, including record keeping, calculations, stack testing, and reporting. The draft permit expires in five years instead of Water Gremlin's current non-expiring permit.
An air quality operating permit is required for existing facilities that emit or have the potential to emit 10 tons per year or more of hazardous air pollution, or 25 tons per year or more of a combination of hazardous air pollution. The permit includes all requirements for operation and procedures, applicable rules, emission standards, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting. If additional conditions change and modifications to the permit are necessary, the MPCA may review and amend the permit.
The public can ask the MPCA questions about the proposed Water Gremlin permit at a community meeting on July 28, 6-9 p.m., at Century College (3300 Century Avenue N.) in White Bear Lake.
